Pat-a-pillar!

Last night Todd brought home a giant caterpillar, or as Ameliah called it a "patapillar". He was coming home from work and saw tons of these guys crossing the road (which is odd because last week he saw a ton of millipedes crossing the road a few miles from there. Is there some kind of insect migration that I have never heard about?). He pulled over to see what they were and caught one to bring home and show us. I looked online and I think it is called a striped morning sphynx caterpillar. Apparently they turn into huge moths with a wingspan of up to 3 inches! You can't see it very well in the picture, but he has a horn on his bum.
Ameliah loved this little guy. She followed him all around the driveway and yard. She picked up a stick and poked at it. When it jerked away, it made her jump, but she was way more fascinated than scared.
We were in the middle of dinner, hence the pizza all over her face. She was so excited that I had to snap this cute picture of her.
This is her waving goodbye to the "patapillar" when I made her come in the house. The rest of the night and all day today she has been asking where the caterpillar is and can we see it. I personally find bugs, insects and creepy-crawly things disgusting. I tried really hard last night not to say anything negative about it, because I want her to know that it's okay if she likes it and I don't want to instill fear in her. I love that she is so curious about nature and wants to learn. I really don't want to change that about her...unless she tries to bring them into my house. That's where I draw the line!
