Ka-Donk!

So yesterday Cannon would NOT lay down for a nap. By 3:00 I realized that if I did not get that baby to take a nap that he would have a grouchy evening. He refused to go in his bed so I laid him in the Love Sack (giant bean bag) with his blankie and he was out before I even shut the door behind me. I was making dinner and it occurred to me that I should check on the baby as he would probably be waking up soon. Then I heard a thud on the wood floor upstairs and Cannon crying the most heart-breaking cry. I bolted up the stairs (because he's so tough that when that kid cries, you know he's hurt). I opened the door and saw him sitting next to the bean bag trying to get up. You can imagine the horror I felt when I saw this...
... It was the HUGEST goose egg I have ever seen in real life! I think he fell while he was trying to get off the bag and he hit his head right on the corner of the bookshelf. OUCH! I picked him up immediately and watched that thing grow.
By the time I took these pictures the swelling had gone down a little. Still, these pictures did not accurately capture the enormity of that bump on his head. Thank goodness that cut wasn't deep, or we would have made a trip to the ER. YUCK!
I didn't have any ibuprofen, so I gave him Tylenol because I knew that he was going to have a massive headache for the rest of the night. He didn't cry for long and was ready to get back to his normal monkey business within 15 minutes. I was reluctant to let him go; I just wanted to sit there and hold him all night. I guess part of that would be because I felt like such a crappy mom for letting my 18 month old sleep on the Love Sack.

Dad-Gum! You almost had a massive head wound on your hands! I don't think my kids have ever gotten a bonk that big!

Oh wow. I don't think I've ever seen a bump that big either. Poor little guy. Isn't it amazing how resilient kids are?
